Pictures and an Exhibition

So many “Firsts” kicked off in the beautiful lobby of Hotel Congress last night with 50 guests and 150 curious HoCo fans in attendance enjoying a drink, a nosh, some live music and the images that inspired so much of True Concord’s latest commission – Jocelyn Hagen’s HERE I AM.  Eric Holtan, the Founding Music Director of Tucson’s only professional chamber choir and orchestra—the Emmy- and Grammy-honored True Concord Voices & Orchestra—asked Hagen for a new work after the resounding success of her NOTEBOOKS OF LEONARDO DA VINCI – a critical and audience favorite from the first note played – and the first projection viewed – in 2019.

The “Firsts”

1. First collaboration between Tucson’s “clubhouse,” the historic and beautiful Hotel Congress and True Concord
2. First public celebration of the upcoming World Premiere of Hagen’s multi-media symphonic choral extravaganza HERE I AM
3. First showing of the commissioned portraits of writers who provided the text for HERE I AM – 50 pictures, 46 women, created by 7 different artists in different formats and materials
4. First collaborative visual arts show curated for True Concord by educator, gallery aficionado, artist Carolyn King
5. Celebration of the World Premiere of Kurnat’s I, Lover – the 2021 winner of True Concord’s Stephen Paulus Emerging Composers Prize
6. Celebration of the True Concord debut of Met Star Susanna Phillips – she can’t wait to join True Concord and sing Jocelyn’s new music
7. Nation’s first performance at HoCo – impromptu – they’d love to play The Century Room next season
8. Nation is the pop vocal duo of True Concord’s first Composers-In-Residence, wife and husband Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach
