With spirit and sensitivity, soprano Chelsea Helm brings a versatile voice to the concert stage. This season, in addition to her debut with True Concord Voices & Orchestra, Ms. Helm will appear with Grammy award-winning Conspirare, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the Calvin Oratorio Society of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the Bach Society of Houston. Last season she was heard with Grammy nominated Seraphic Fire and Cantare Houston.
A Michigan native, Ms. Helm has appeared as a concert soloist with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Muskegon Symphony Orchestra, and Brevard Festival Orchestra. Favorite performances include Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and the Faure Requiem.
On the operatic stage, Ms. Helm has performed the roles of Norina in Don Pasquale (Janiec Opera Company), Nireno in Giulio Cesare and Nella in Gianni Schicchi (Shepherd School of Music), and Frasquita in Carmen (Soo Theatre Project). Named “West Michigan’s leading young soprano” by Opera Grand Rapids after winning their 2013 Collegiate Vocal Competition, she went on to join the company for several comprimario and chorus roles.
Ms. Helm holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and Music Education from Western Michigan University. Also a WMU Gold Company alumna, Ms. Helm recorded a Downbeat award-winning album with vocal jazz quartet the Four Corners.
Currently based in Houston, TX, Ms. Helm teaches a private voice studio and is a staff singer and soloist at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
